Philips HomeCooker Experiment Three
My playing and experimenting with the Philips HomeCooker continues and yes it has been fun, however what I have done is used existing recipes and tried them out in the HomeCooker. I wanted to ensure that it worked well with everyday regular dishes, and thus far it has worked well for me.
My sons like roasted and salted natural almonds-however the ones that you buy ready are quite oily and yes you guesed right-they don’t like oily, and for years now I have been roasting and salting them myself–many times I have burnt a batch as well. This time when I needed to do a batch I thought why not try the HomeCooker and I am glad I did because the experiment was successful. Here is my recipe for roasted salted and “oh so healty almonds”
Roasted & Salted Almonds
500g raw natural almonds
60ml warm water
45ml vegetable oil
15ml lemon juice
5ml grated lemon rind
10ml salt
5ml paprika (optional)
Method
- Mix all of the ingredients in a large mixing bowl and leave to rest/marinate for about 2-3 hours
- Turn the temperature on the Philips HomeCooker to 200 and ensure the stirrer attachment is affixed, before adding the nuts – include the liquid as well
- Allow this to cook for about 10minutes and then turn the temperature down to 130 and set the timer for the nuts to cook for 20minutes
- After 20minutes remove the lid and allow to cook for a further 5-10minutes ensuring all the liquid has evaporated
- Turn the cooker off and topple the nuts onto a tray and allow to cool thoroughly before storing or enjoying as a healthy snack in between meals
